Humane Society of Burnett County Inc

The Humane Society of Burnett County, Inc.'s mission is to provide a safe haven for stray or unwanted animals, to foster the human-animal bond, to promote responsible pet ownership and to end pet overpopulation through spay/neuter.

First established in 2000 by a group of dedicated animal welfare activists working out of their homes and using their own funds, HSBC has grown into an invaluable community resource.  In 2019, HSBC moved from a hodgepodge of trailers and other temporary structures to their new location at 7410 County Road D, Webster, WI - The Peggy Schilling Animal Adoption and Education Center. In the new location, HSBC is better able to rescue and rehome the hundreds of stray or abandoned dogs and cats in Burnett County.  In 2022, 433 animals were cared for before being reunited with their families or adopted into new homes.   All animals are spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated and microchipped prior to adoption. HSBC is a no kill shelter - animals have a safe, healthy home at the shelter for as long as it takes for the right person to come along.  Animals with extraordinary veterinary needs and a reasonable chance for recovery and quality of life, benefit from Star’s Fund - a special account created to provide funds for procedures like dental cleaning and surgeries, amputations, and heartworm treatments. Animals are never euthanized for space, only in the case of extreme aggression or untreatable health issues.

HSBC receives no county funding and relies solely on donations, adoption and other fees, and grants.  The need is great and constant.  100% of your gift to HSBC goes to the care, feeding and housing of all the shelter animals.  Please consider HSBC in your giving plans.
