At United Way St. Croix Valley, we fight for the health, education, and financial stability of every person in Western Wisconsin. One of the ways we support our neighbors in need is by connecting them to help through our 211 St. Croix Valley information and referral service, which serves Pierce, Polk, St. Croix, and Burnett counties. When our community members need help and don't know where to turn, 211 is there 24 hours/day, 7 days/week, to provide expert, caring assistance.
Our 211 specialists connect callers to local services like utility assistance, housing, food, elder care, crisis intervention, substance use recovery, and much more. Now, we are launching an emergency fund to provide basic needs financial assistance to callers in need when there are no other options for help locally. Your gift during giveBIG St. Croix Valley will help provide emergency financial assistance to 211 callers - and thanks to the generosity of HILLCITY CHURCH, all donations will be DOUBLED up to $3,600!
To hear about how 211 and emergency funds can be a lifeline for our neighbors in need, simply play the video below to hear from Louise, a local resident that was helped by 211 St. Croix Valley. After reaching out to every resource she could find and not getting any help, Louise called 211 as her last hope. Georgie, the 211 specialist who answered the call, was “the first positive person” that didn’t “just hang up on you because there’s no help out there,” says Louise. Play the video to hear Louise tell her story.
Over the last year, 211 St. Croix Valley has answered over 6,500 calls for help. That's 6,500 people just like Louise that 211 is helping every day of the year. So often, one-time emergency financial assistance can mean the difference between falling into crisis and being able to stay afloat. For Louise, a small grant from the emergency fund meant she was able to get to work while her car was being repaired, but it also gave her the hope she needed to keep going forward. As Louise says, “Just that one cushion of a week to get to work lifted my spirit and my belief that everything is going to work out.”
We can't do this critical work without your support! Please donate today and help us throw a lifeline to our neighbors like Louise when they are ready to lose hope!
